Nigerian Govt Okays 50% Subsidy For Wheat Farmers To Secure Boost Production

Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari has announced an plans by the Federal Government to provide 50% subsidy to wheat farmers as part of measures to achieve food security and self-sufficiency.

This measures is specifically aimed at boosting wheat production in the country in the upcoming dry season farming.

Kyari said:”We are fully committed to promoting substantial wheat production for both local and foreign export activities.” This comes as part of President Tinubu’s renewed agenda to secure food production for Nigeria, with a specific emphasis on wheat farming.

The minister’s visits to Kano and Jigawa revealed promising local commitment, with Jigawa State dedicating 40,000 hectares of land, nearing the government’s 70,000-hectare target.

Kyari emphasized, “We are phasing out wheat importation to preserve Nigeria’s foreign reserves and boost self-sufficiency in wheat production.”

This move aims to make Nigeria self-sufficient in wheat production within the next 4-5 years, enhancing food security and reducing reliance on seed imports.
