Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has called on Nigerian authorities to learn lessons from the just-concluded United States 2024 elections to strengthen the country’s democratic process.

Obi said the peaceful conduct of the elections should serve as an example of how Nigeria can reform the electoral process to stop irregularities such as vote-buying, election violence, manipulation of election results, and technical that such as network failure on election day.

The former Anambra State governor said Harris participated in the presidential race with courage and strength, but at the end, the will of the people prevailed.

“The peaceful conduct of these U.S. elections, along with the efficient transmission and release of results, should serve as an example and an inspiration for us here in Nigeria to abandon outdated practices such as electoral malpractice, vote-buying, election violence, and network disruptions that continue to hinder our democratic process.,” Obi stated.

He emphasised that no democratic election is complete unless the people’s will is allowed to manifest through the ballots.
