As China battles the resurgence of COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that 35 new cases of the disease were recorded in the last week of December 2022.

According to an update on the NCDC website on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, 22 of the cases were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 10 in Lagos State, two in Delta, and one occurred in Plateau State.

The agency said the cases were recorded between December 24 and December 30, 2022.

This increased the total number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria to 266,450 and 3,155 deaths across the 36 states and the FCT since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2019.

The agency’s record also shows that 3,451 people are currently down with the disease (active cases), while 259,844 have been treated and discharged.

While calling on Nigerians to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures, NCDC also stressed that taking the vaccine is the most effective way of combating the disease and preventing its spread.
