Trading opened this week with a loss of N1.37 trillion on Monday, March 23, after the all-share index (ASI) contracted by 1.07 percent in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
The NGX, also known as the stock market operated for only three days last week, from Monday, March 16, to Wednesday, March 18, due to a public holiday to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

As a result, the NGX’s market capitalisation plunged from N129.12 trillion to N127.75 trillion.
Top five gainers
- FGSUK2032S5’s share price increased by N9.95 kobo to rise from N90.05 to N100 per share.
- Presco’s share value grew by N170.10 kobo, from N1,701.10 kobo to N1,871.20 kobo per share.
- Zichis Agro ended trading at N9.43 kobo per share, from N8.58 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.85 kobo.
- John Holt’s share appreciated by N1.15 kobo to end trading at N13, having opened with N11.85 kobo.
- Premier Paints’ share value was up by N2.25 kobo, after closing at N25.65 kobo from N23.40 kobo per share.
Top five losers
- Consolidated Hallmark’s share price depreciated by N0.48 kobo, dwindling from N4.98 kobo to N4.50 kobo per share.
- Deap Capital recorded a N0.54 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N5.91 kobo after opening with N6.45 kobo per share.
- GTCO recorded a N9.35 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N105 after opening with N114.35 kobo per share.
- International Energy Insurance lost N0.23 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N2.77 kobo from N3 per share.
- Nigerian Breweries reported a decline of N5.50 kobo from the previous share price of N75.50 kobo to end trading at N70 per share.

- UBA reported that 114.16 million shares valued at N5.54 billion were traded on its floor.
- Wema Bank recorded 111.95 million shares valued at N2.91 billion.
- Access Holdings saw investors trade 54.75 million of its shares valued at N1.42 billion.
- Zenith Bank recorded 38.17 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N4.08 billion.
- Zichis Agro reported that traders exchanged 32.20 million shares valued at N272.60 million.
