NGX ASI Plunges, Pushes Nigerian Stock Market Cap Down To N143trn

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed at N143.94 trillion on Thursday, below the N144.82 trillion recorded on Wednesday.

Over N877.90 billion was lost after the all-share index (ASI) declined to 224,321.97 ASI.

The index dropped by 1,368.1 basis points from the 225,690.07 ASI reported the previous day.

Investors closed 51,609 deals on Thursday after trading 855.40 million shares worth N28.42 billion, compared to the 46,929 deals recorded the day before, when 488.11 million shares, valued at N13.96 billion, were exchanged.

Top Five Gainers

  • Learn Africa’s share price increased by N0.90 kobo, from N9 to N9.90 kobo per share.
  • Austin Laz’s share value grew by N0.33 kobo, from N3.30 kobo to N3.63 kobo per share.
  • DAAR Communication’s share appreciated by N0.13 kobo, to end trading at N1.50 kobo, having opened with N1.37 kobo.
  • UPDC’s share ended trading at N3.60 kobo per share, from N3.30 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.30 kobo.
  • Caverton’s share value was up by N0.40 kobo, after closing at N5.10 kobo, from N4.70 kobo per share.

Top Five Losers

  • Guinea Insurance’s share price depreciated by N0.10 kobo, dwindling from N1 to N0.90 kobo per share.
  • CMFC recorded a N0.39 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.56 kobo, after opening with N3.95 kobo.
  • Fortis Global Insurance reported a N0.39 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.57 kobo, after opening with N3.96 per share.
  • International Energy Insurance lost N0.57 kobo in its share price, to sell at N5.22 kobo, down from N5.79 kobo per share.
  • McNichols reported a decline of N0.75 kobo, from the previous share price of N7.65 kobo, to end trading at N6.90 kobo per share.

Top Five Trading Equities

  • Sterling Financial Holdings Company reported that 459.59 million shares valued at N3.66 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Zenith Bank recorded 41.14 million shares valued at N4.19 billion.
  • Universal Insurance saw investors trade 30.22 million of its shares valued at N25.23 million.
  • Access Holdings recorded 29.65 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N654.88 million.
  • FCMB reported that traders exchanged 28.19 million shares valued at N271.35 million.
