Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has called on Nigerians to shun division and see the need to embrace unity in order to build the country.

The WTO DG made the call following the backlash she received by critics for posting late on Twitter, a picture of herself and that of President Bola Tinubu at the Financial Summit in Paris on Saturday.

She had earlier posted pictures of herself and some world leaders including the Summit host, Emmanuel Marcon, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, and Kenya’s William Ruto, during the event.

However, critics and President Tinubu’s Supporters berated her for posting picture of herself and other leaders first on Twitter. Those supporting Tinubu lashed at her, accusing her of hating Tinubu and supporting opposition candidates in the last election.

Adamu Garba, a staunch APC member,  accused Okonjo-Iweala of cropping the president out of a picture she posted at the recent summit for a new Global Financing Pact in Paris.

Reacting to that, Dr Okonjo-Iweala said it is quite appalling for people to read meaning into her posting of pictures of the event Paris event.

She said the pictures were posted on her  Twitter handle as they were received from her personal staff.

She said: “Nigerians please relax! Re Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides. Sadly shows the depth of polarization in our society. I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let’s unite to build our country not attack!”
