Nestle, Tantalizers, Others Add N20.5bn To Stock Market Cap

On Tuesday, May 20, the Nigerian stock market recovered from losses recorded on Monday, May 19, following gains in Nestle, Tantalizer, and others.

The companies on the gainers’ list added N20.50 billion to the stock market capitalisation, which increased from N68.94 trillion to N68.96 trillion.

Also, the all-share index (ASI) increased slightly by 32.64 basis points from 109,697.83 ASI to 109,730.47 ASI.

The volume of shares traded on Tuesday rose marginally to 497.06 million in 18,795 deals, worth N13.21 billion, against the 486.08 million shares exchanged in 24,883 deals, valued at N11.38 billion, on Monday.

Top five gainers

  • Regal Insurance’s share price increased by 10 percent to rise from N0.60 kobo to N0.66 kobo per share.
  • Tripple Gee’s share value grew by N0.20 kobo, up from N2 to N2.20 kobo per share.
  • Nestle ended trading at N464.10 kobo per share, from N1331 per share – indicating an increase of N133.10 kobo.
  • Tantalizers gained N0.25 kobo to end trading at N2.78 kobo, having opened with N2.53 kobo.
  • Multiverse’s share value was up by N0.85 kobo, after closing at N9.70 kobo from N8.85 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Berger Paints’ share price depreciated by N2.35 kobo, dwindling from N23.55 kobo to N21.20 kobo per share.
  • Mutual Benefit recorded a N0.10 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N0.92 kobo after opening with N1.02 per share.
  • Associated Bus Transport lost N0.26 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N2.40 kobo from N2.66 kobo per share.
  • Aradel reported a decline of N43 from the previous day’s share price of N503 to end trading at N460 per share.
  • Caverton recorded a N0.29 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.80 kobo after opening with N4.09 per share.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

  • Fidelity Bank reported that 60.18 million shares valued at N1.12 billion were traded on its floor.
  • UBA recorded 36.39 million shares valued at N1.25 billion.
  • Custodian saw investors trade 35.64 million of its shares valued at N698.80 million.
  • Tantalizer recorded 27.58 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N76.43 million.
  • United Capital reported 26.74 million shares valued at N496.39 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
