A late-night fire outbreak has swept through a section of a bustling market in Yaba, Lagos State, destroying shops and goods estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, reportedly started between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. around the Popo/Ajibode axis of the market.
Eyewitnesses said the flames spread quickly, catching many traders off guard as they struggled to rescue their merchandise.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, arrived at the scene and worked to contain the blaze. Despite their intervention, witnesses claimed that logistical challenges hampered efforts, with some alleging inadequate equipment and water supply issues.
By the time the fire was brought under control, several shops had been completely razed, leaving traders with significant financial losses.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities as of the time of this report.
