Dubbed as “fashion’s grandest affair”, the Met Gala 2023 is a charitable event aimed at fundraising for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The gala attracts a plethora of A-list celebrities, young creatives, and prominent figures in the fashion industry. In honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld, a regular guest at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, the 2023 Met Gala will adopt the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

The event is scheduled for May 1, 2023, which coincides with the first Monday in May. Notably, the Costume Institute presented a two-part exhibition on American fashion in 2021 and 2022, consisting of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” respectively.

History Of The Met Gala

The first Met Gala was held in 1948, and it has since become an iconic event in the fashion industry. The theme for each year’s event is chosen by the Costume Institute and often ties into the museum’s current exhibit. The Met Gala has hosted a wide range of themes over the years, including “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” in 2018 and “Camp: Notes on Fashion” in 2019.

The Met Gala is known for its over-the-top red carpet fashion, and guests often dress to impress with elaborate and creative ensembles that push the boundaries of fashion. Some of the most memorable Met Gala looks include Rihanna’s yellow Guo Pei gown in 2015 and Lady Gaga’s four outfit changes in 2019, including a pink Brandon Maxwell dress that transformed into a black strapless gown.
