The first Niger Bridge in Onitsha, which links the eastern and western parts of the country was up in flames and thick smoke following a fuel tanker explosion that rocked the area in the wee hours of today.

The ensuing chaos prompted locals to evacuate areas surrounding the historic bridge in Anambra State, even as bystanders lament the delay of the fire service in mobilizing to the scene as of press time.

Meanwhile, the unfortunate incident has caused massive traffic snarl within both Onitsha and Asaba metropolises, delaying the travel time of motorists heading to different parts of the country.
