According to the Statement, “The 50% rebate in transport fare in the regulated transport system in Lagos ends on Sunday.”

LAMATA recalled that the 50% rebate on the transport fare had been announced by the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on August 2nd, 2023.

However, the transport agency stated that a new off-peak fare will be introduced, “to give those travelling outside the early morning peak a form of a rebate on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Blue Line train.

Earlier, on July 31, Governor Sanwo-Olu had announced the reduction of transport fares for state-owned buses by 50% as well as commercial yellow buses by 25% on all routes as part of efforts to reduce the effect of the removal of the petrol subsidy on residents.

He stated that the bus fare reduction was to begin on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, adding that there is an expansion of the fleet of staff buses for workers in the Lagos State Public Service to reduce the effect of the petrol subsidy removal. He said that the buses were ready and would be deployed through the office of the Head of Service of the state.
