Lagos Govt Reopens Alayabiagba Market With Sanitation Focus

The Commissioner charged the traders to prioritize sanitation of the market saying: “We must stop littering our market with wastes, segregate and bag our wastes, and always patronize PSP operators.”

The market reopening came after market leaders diligently implemented recommended sanitation measures, including the installation of Double Dino Bins and a market entrance fence.

The government’s commitment to sanitation didn’t stop there. Mr. Wahab and his team inspected drainage channels, identifying violations and issuing contravention notices to commercial property owners.

The focus on clearing and dredging drainage channels and canals aims to ensure smooth rainwater flow, with ongoing dredging becoming a top priority.

In the midst of these efforts, Special Adviser on Environment, Mr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, called on the public to cease dumping refuse into drains, while Dr. Muyiwa Gbedegesin, Managing Director of LAWMA, reaffirmed their commitment to a consistently cleaner Lagos.

Mrs. Tari Taylour, Chairman of the Environment sector, Lekki Residents Association, lauded the government’s determination to improve Lagos’ livability. She encouraged responsible waste disposal and highlighted the long-term benefits of environmental sustainability. With a renewed focus on sanitation, Lagos is setting a commendable example for cleaner, greener cities.
