The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party has presented a free governorship nomination form to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what party leaders described as recognition of his loyalty, leadership and performance in office.
The nomination form was presented on Friday at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, during a ceremony attended by members of the party’s leadership.

Speaking at the event, Usman reportedly described Otti as the “poster boy” of the Labour Party, commending his administration for reflecting the party’s principles of social justice, accountability and good governance in Abia State.
She said the decision to grant the governor a free nomination form was in recognition of his “outstanding performance” and unwavering support for the party during its prolonged internal crisis.
The party’s National Secretary, Obioma Iheanacho, also praised Otti for remaining committed to the party despite months of leadership disputes and uncertainty within the party structure.
Other party officials present at the event included National Organising Secretary, Oluchi Oparah; National Woman Leader, Hilda Dokubo; National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa; and former National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha, who was also reportedly presented with a free nomination form.

Responding, Otti expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Labour Party for what he described as a significant honour, pledging continued loyalty and support to the party.
“Today, I was greatly honoured to receive a free nomination form from the National Working Committee of the Labour Party, presented by our National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja,” the governor said.
He thanked the party leadership, including Usman, Iheanacho and members of the NWC, assuring them that he would not take the gesture for granted.
“I pledge never to disappoint the Labour Party and will continue to support it in every possible way,” Otti stated.
The governor also commended Usman for what he described as her role in steering the party out of its internal crisis, declaring that all legal disputes affecting the Labour Party had been resolved.
“Today, I am confident that the coast is clear for the Labour Party to move forward into the next general elections, as all legal impediments have been effectively resolved, with no subsisting litigation against our party,” he said.
Otti dedicated the recognition to the people of Abia State, saying their support and confidence in his administration continued to inspire him to deliver quality governance and remain steadfast in service.
“Our journey continues with renewed energy and firm resolve,” the governor added.
The development comes days after the Labour Party held its national convention in Umuahia, Abia State, where a new National Working Committee led by Usman emerged.
Political observers view the presentation of the free nomination form as an early endorsement of Otti’s anticipated re-election bid and a reflection of his growing influence within the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
