The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to advancing criminal justice reforms and strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders in the justice sector, as part of efforts to improve accountability, protect citizens’ rights, and enhance public confidence in policing, Prime Business Africa reports.
Disu made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The NBA delegation included Abdul Mohammed (SAN), First Vice President Sabastine Anya, General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, NBA Assistant Executive Director Salamatu Sidi, Etaba Agbor, and Isaac Aduloju.
Speaking during the visit, Osigwe commended the Inspector-General for measures aimed at enhancing professionalism and accountability within the Force. He also reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to support initiatives that promote justice, the rule of law, and improved service delivery across the criminal justice system.
The NBA President further extended an invitation to the Nigeria Police Force to participate in the Association’s forthcoming Annual General Conference.

Responding, the police chief reiterated the Force’s commitment to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental human rights, and strict adherence to due process in the discharge of its duties.
He stressed that sustained engagement between the Police and the legal profession remains essential to strengthening Nigeria’s criminal justice system, noting that effective collaboration among justice sector stakeholders is critical to promoting accountability, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and improving access to justice.
According to the IGP, stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and legal practitioners will help address systemic challenges within the justice sector while ensuring that policing is carried out in line with established laws and democratic principles.
The Nigeria Police Force, he added, remains focused on improving operational standards, enhancing public trust, and delivering policing services in accordance with global best practices.
