The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations are on the verge of a significant transformation in their approach to tourism. In a move that mirrors the Schengen visa system in Europe, the GCC is gearing up to introduce a unified tourist visa.

This development will allow travellers explore all six GCC countries, which include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, with a single visa.

The introduction of the unified GCC visa marks a major leap forward for the tourism industry in the region, promising to simplify and enhance the experience for travellers who want to embark on multi-country journeys across the GCC.

In an announcement made during a meeting in Muscat, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, confirmed the approval of the unified visa by GCC ministers.

The benefits of the unified visa are poised to be manifold. Firstly, it streamlines the process for tourists planning to explore multiple GCC countries in one trip.

This convenience is expected to draw more long-haul tourists to the region, as it eliminates the burden of obtaining multiple visas.

Additionally, the unified GCC visa is predicted to extend tourists’ stays in the region. With the freedom to visit multiple countries without visa-related concerns, travellers are likely to increase their spending, as they’ll have more time to savour the diverse attractions the region has to offer.

As for the exact release date of the unified GCC visa, it remains undisclosed. However, Minister Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi hinted that the initiative will be introduced “shortly.” Anticipations are high that the official unveiling will take place during a gathering of regional interior ministers scheduled for November 2023.

The introduction of the unified GCC visa is expected to lead to collaborative promotional efforts among GCC countries, aimed at boosting tourism in the region. Discussions have also revolved around the potential creation of a shared booking platform and a joint tourism website.

Although the pricing, duration, and eligibility criteria of the unified GCC visa remain undisclosed, more information is expected to be revealed by the end of the year.
