Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano has graciously asked for the early turn out of voters in today’s governorship election.
In a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba on Friday evening, governor Obiano thanked the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for listening to the voice of reason and ending their Sit-at-home order in order to have voters exercise their franchise.
“The IPOB leadership deserves commendation for listening to the cries of not only ndi Anambra but also other concerned persons from all over the Southeast and beyond, including traditional, religious and civil leaders”. “Every leader must endeavour to carry the people along in all its undertakings,” Obiano quipped.
About two and a half million voters registered for the election in which 18 political parties will participate in the polls and the governor has assured that the election will be transparent.
Thirty four thousand, five hundred policemen have arrived from different parts of Nigeria to boost the 5,000 – strong Anambra State Police Command. They will be assisted by large numbers of men and women from other arms-bearing services like the army, navy, the Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Security and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
