Former National Youth Leader of a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sultan Ahmed Bello, has apologised to members and stakeholders of the party over his role in the leadership crisis rocking the opposition platform, while formally aligning himself with the faction led by former Senate President David Mark.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, Bello admitted that he conspired with his cousin, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, in actions that contributed to instability within the party during his time as National Youth Leader of the Bala-led faction.
“What I did was wrong, and I fully acknowledge that,” Bello said, adding that he had accepted responsibility for his actions and resolved not to participate in activities capable of undermining the party again.

The former youth leader described his apology as part of a personal process of accountability and reconciliation, noting that “growth comes with accountability” and that admitting wrongdoing was necessary to restore trust.
Bello also extended apologies to several prominent political figures and stakeholders within the party, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
According to Bello, the party leaders accepted his apology and advised him to remain committed to truth and democratic principles.
“I am grateful that they accepted my apology and advised me to always stand on the side of truth and never again conspire with anyone to undermine the progress of the party or the democratic process,” he stated.

Bello said his decision to join the David Mark-led faction followed what he described as “careful reflection,” insisting that the faction represented the legitimate path forward for the ADC.
He also renewed his claim that Nafi’u Bala had resigned from his position as Deputy National Chairman of the party, saying, “Nafi’u Bala himself knows, just as I do, that he resigned from his position as Deputy National Chairman of the ADC.”
The former youth leader further hinted at fresh revelations regarding the ongoing dispute within the party, stating that there would be a “major development” from him soon aimed at resolving the crisis.
“By the grace of God, I will be among those who will help bring this ADC problem to an end once and for all,” he added.
The ADC has faced months of internal wrangling, with rival factions battling over the party’s leadership structure and legitimacy amid broader political realignments ahead of future elections.
