The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a fresh turn on Sunday as Former National Youth Leader of a faction of the party, Sultan Ahmed Bello, accused factional leader Nafi’u Bala Gombe of intimidation and alleged attempts to manipulate judicial processes, Prime Business Africa reports.
Bello, who recently resigned from his position, said he would soon disclose details surrounding the internal dispute between the Bala-led faction and the group aligned with former Senate President David Mark.
In a statement, Bello said he had decided to “bring the entire saga to a close” after what he described as deep reflection on the prolonged crisis within the party.

According to him, he and Bala had previously agreed that once the matter before the courts reached the Supreme Court, Bala would either resign or align with the David Mark-led faction because both parties allegedly knew he had already stepped down from his position.
Bello, however, claimed that the agreement was not honoured.
“As a result, I have decided that this week I will reveal everything that happened during my time as the National Youth Leader of his faction,” he said.
The former youth leader further alleged that he had faced threats and intimidation from Bala, adding that he could no longer continue under such pressure.
“I can no longer continue living under threats from Nafi’u Bala Gombe. I am tired. Nigeria deserves peace, stability, and honest leadership above personal interests and political games,” Bello stated.
He also apologised to Nigerians for his involvement in the factional dispute.
“To my fellow Nigerians, I sincerely apologise for my role in conspiring with Nafi’u Bala. I deeply regret my actions and take full responsibility for them,” he added.

The latest development comes weeks after Bello tendered his resignation as Acting National Youth Leader of the Bala-led faction of the ADC.
In a resignation letter dated April 30, 2026, Bello cited persistent insults, hostile attacks on social media and alleged prayers directed against him and his family as reasons for stepping down.
“One incident that deeply troubled me was a public statement wishing that Allah SWT deal with me and my entire family in the same manner as Pharaoh and his people at the Red Sea,” the letter read.
Bello said the situation had affected his peace of mind and the well-being of his family, prompting his immediate resignation from the position.
He also accused Bala of focusing on influencing court proceedings rather than defending his case through legal arguments.
“Nafi’u Bala seems more interested in shopping for judges than defending his case. When the courtroom stops going your way, the judge suddenly becomes the problem,” Bello alleged.
The ADC has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership dispute, with rival factions contesting the legitimacy and control of the party structure ahead of future political alignments.
