Officers of the Nigerian Army have arrested no fewer than 10 heavily armed thugs at a guest house in Ikem, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of  Enugu State.

The thugs were allegedly kept in the guest house for the purpose of militarising Governorship and State Assembly elections in the area which is under Enugu East Senatorial District and home to the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edoga.

The thugs, who were said to have been hired from Aguleri, in Anambra State, were apprehended following an intelligence report.

According to military sources, they were found to be in possession of weapons, including some AK47s, and pump action rifles, which were seized by the military personnel.

The armed thugs were reportedly hired to unleash mayhem in the area on election day.

They have reportedly been handed over to the Nigerian Police Force, Ikem Division alongside weapons recovered from them.

The Police spokesperson, Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe did not pick up calls to his phone for confirmation of the incident.

Some residents of the area, however, confirmed the arrests of the thugs and expressed worry over the development.
