INEC Declares PDP’s Peter Mbah Winner Of Enugu Guber Poll

After days of political logjam the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared has finally declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Mbah, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Enugu State.

Mbah won with a slight margin of 3,343 votes.

According to the Returning Officer, of the state for the election, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, who announced the result on Wednesday night, polled 160,895 votes, while his closest rivals, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP) scored 157,552.

Prof. Ofo-Iwe, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike further announced that candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr polled 7,983 votes which is a distant third position, while that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Uche Nnaji, scored 14,575 votes to take fourth place.

Declaring Mbah as the winner of the election, the Returning Officer said

“Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Below is the number of votes scored by other political parties:

AA 330 votes, AAC 146 votes, ADC 1168 votes, ADP 382 votes, APM 358 votes, APP 158 votes, BP 319 votes, NNPP 2107 votes, NRM 854 votes, PRP 850, SDP 65 votes, YPP 397 votes, ZLP 332 votes.
