Egypt and Chad have agreed to double passenger flight capacity and increase air cargo capacity by 125% as the two countries seek to expand trade, investment and transport links between North and Central Africa, Prime Business Africa reports.
The agreement was reached during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee in N’Djamena, attended by government officials and business representatives from both countries.

The two sides agreed to maintain technical cooperation, exchange expertise and strengthen direct communication to resolve operational challenges. They also signed a memorandum of understanding covering civil aviation cooperation and expertise-sharing.
The aviation expansion is part of a wider push to improve trade connectivity. Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir backed a proposed highway linking Egypt, Libya and Chad, describing it as a strategic corridor connecting North and Central Africa.
The countries are also developing the El Gran Corridor Company, a joint initiative aimed at establishing logistics zones, supporting agricultural projects and strengthening Chad’s meat-export industry.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Cairo wanted to increase bilateral trade and encourage Egyptian companies to participate in Chad’s development projects. He also invited Chadian investors to explore opportunities in Egypt, including the Suez Canal Economic Zone, industrial hubs and logistics centres.

The broader investment agenda covers energy, infrastructure, transport, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, healthcare and digital transformation.
The two governments signed memoranda of understanding covering health, culture, civil aviation and tourism.
For Egypt, improved connectivity with Chad could provide a stronger route for its companies and services into Central Africa. For Chad, closer links with Egypt could improve access to investment, logistics infrastructure and external markets.
The initiatives are also being positioned as part of efforts to advance African regional integration and support implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The commercial impact will depend on the implementation of the transport projects, demand for the additional aviation capacity and improvements in border, customs and logistics procedures.
