Edo Election: Oshiomhole Hails INEC For Peaceful Poll

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for conducting peaceful election in the state.

He stated this shortly after casting his vote at Iyamo Ward 3, Etsako West Local Government of the state.

Oshiomhole, who currently represents Edo North Senatorial district in the National Assembly, spoke in a live interview with the NTA from his polling unit.

He expressed delight in the conduct of the election, noting that INEC officials arrived early and vote began early as scheduled.

He said: “Election could not be better than this. From the information I am hearing, it has been going on peacefully without any incident. I can say that I have information from about 80 per cent of the polling Units and I am satisfied so far.”

He cautioned those who did not sign the peace accord not to incite violence in the state. He condemned violence in the strongest terms, saying election is not a do or die affair.

Meanwhile, Personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and some police officers were spotted at the polling unit of Adams Oshiomhole.

Senator Oshiomhole, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is supporting the party’s candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Seventeen political parties are participating in the election but there are three leading candidates – Okpebholo of the APC, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.

Over 2 million voters will cast ballots in the exercise today to determine tbe next governor of the state for the next four years.
