Ebonyi University Expands Academic Offerings with 20 New NUC-Approved Programmes

The Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology (EBSUICTECH) has unveiled 20 new academic programmes approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Engr. Prof. Ernest Ituma Egba, announced the development after receiving the official letter of approval signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.

Prof. Egba expressed delight over the milestone, describing it as a major step toward fulfilling the institution’s vision of becoming Nigeria’s leading ICT-focused university.
“We have left no stone unturned in ensuring that both the human and material resources required to sustain these new programmes are ready,” he said.

He lauded the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his consistent financial and moral support, adding that the university already boasts a pool of highly trained academic staff, both locally and internationally, whose expertise will enhance teaching and research quality.

The newly approved courses span across ICT, engineering, social sciences, and built environment disciplines. They include:

  • B.Eng. Computer Engineering
  • B.Eng. Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • B.Sc. Mass Communication
  • B.Sc. Accounting
  • B.Sc. Economics
  • B.Sc. Entrepreneurship
  • B.Sc. Architecture
  • B.Sc. Building
  • B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics

Admission Open for 2025/2026 Session
In a statement, the Acting Registrar, Dr. Chukwu Eze-Obia, urged candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to apply through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) by selecting EBSUICTECH as their first-choice institution.
“Prospective students are encouraged to seize this opportunity to enrol in a flagship ICT-driven university by visiting the university’s website at www.uicto.edu.ng,” the statement read.

Infrastructure and Development
Prof. Egba highlighted ongoing infrastructural developments at the Oferekpe, Agbaja campus in Izzi LGA, noting that critical structures including faculty buildings, a university library, senate building, student hostels, and staff quarters are either completed or nearing completion, thanks to government support.

He reiterated the university’s commitment to expanding access to quality ICT, science, and technology education, aimed at producing globally competitive graduates.
“Our mission is to develop young people who can address the ICT, science, and technological needs of a fast-evolving digital world,” he added.

Established on January 23, 2025, EBSUICTECH is Nigeria’s 66th state university and 278th in the national university system, with a mandate to drive innovation, research, and entrepreneurship through technology-focused education.
