Danjuma, Other Christian Elders Endorse Obi

The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF), led by former Defence Minister, Theophilus Danjuma, has thrown its weight behind the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, for the 25th February presidential election.

The group made its position known in a statement released on Tuesday, stressing that the country at this point needed a leader that has the capacity to unify all parts of the country and drive massive economic transformation for prosperity.

In the statement titled “Resolutions towards 2023 elections: Think new,” signed by its chairman and former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Dr Danjuma Gani, and Secretary, Pastor Bosun Emmanuel, the group urged Nigerians not to vote based on tribal or religious considerations, but choose leaders with capacity, integrity and good health. “A sick country requires hearty leaders,” the group stated.

NCEF said its choice of Obi is based on the members’ belief that the LP presidential candidate has the capacity to lead the nation to prosperity.

Part of the statement read: “In view of the need to ensure that democracy survives in Nigeria and the culture of corruption, incompetency, lawlessness, and impunity that has assailed the country in the past 24 years is eradicated, the NCEF encourages Nigerians to think new. Nigeria requires new leaders, new methods, new policies, and new political parties.

“The National Christian Elders Forum is endorsing Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party as the presidential candidate to be voted for. The NCEF encourages all Nigerians of voting age to exercise their civic duty and ensure that they vote for capacity, competency, integrity, and good health. Nigerians, Think New!”

This endorsement is coming after that of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, who on Monday said he is not only supporting Obi but is ready to sacrifice his senatorial ambition to ensure that Obi wins the presidential election.
