Arik Air has resumed flight operations one week after its fleet was grounded by the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), over a $2.5 billion debt court order.
According to a statement signed by Arik Air Chief Executive Officer, Capt Roy Ilegbodu, the airline resumed flight services on Thursday, 8th August.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelNAMA had grounded the airline’s fleet following the order of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in obedience to a court order over the debt owed to a private firm, Atlas Petroleum, in a matter that has lingered since 2016.
However, Illegbodu said the airline is excited to announce flight resumption after the matter was resolved.
He thanked all stakeholders who played a crucial role in resolving the matter.

The statement said: “During our brief pause, we have been dedicated to ensuring a smooth and seamless return to service, preparing to welcome you back on board with the comfort and reliability you expect from us.

From our friendly ground staff to our attentive flight crew, everyone at Arik Air is ready and eager to serve you once again. “We extend our gratitude to all the stakeholders who played a crucial role in resolving the recent impasse. Your support and cooperation have been instrumental in our return to the skies.”

Also, in a statement via X on Thursday, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said the airline’s flight resumption was facilitated by the Aviation Minister and Director General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, who resolved the impasse between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum.
“The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, and the DG of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo has successfully resolved the impasse between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum.
“By this resolution, Arik Air will begin operations today (Thursday),” Achimugu stated via his official X handle.
He said the priority of the Minister and the NCAA is to ensure safe and secure air travel for all passengers, adding that Arik Air passengers have started checking in for scheduled flights.
