ANAMBRA State Govervor, Willie Obiano has signed the Bill prohibiting open grazing of cattle in the state into law.

The governor who performed the ceremony on Friday at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, stated that the law is meant to regulate cattle grazing activities and ensure peace especially between farmers and cattle herders in the state.

He thanked the State House of Assembly for expeditiously passing the Bill and directed law enforcement agents to quickly commence implementation of the law.

With this, Obiano has joined his Southern counterparts who have done so in their respective states.

The governors had in May announced a ban on open grazing in all the 17 Southern states.

They had said it was to forestall increasing cases of conflicts between herders and the indigenous population, due to development which has put pressure on available lands.
