Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), in a move expected to shape the institution’s academic and administrative direction in the coming years.
The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after Professor Obamuyi emerged as the highest-ranked candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, in line with the provisions of the university’s Act and extant regulations.
Obamuyi, a renowned Banking and Finance scholar, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, at a time when Nigerian universities are under increasing pressure to strengthen research output, improve academic standards and enhance institutional governance.

The Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, recommended his appointment after concluding the selection process.
The incoming Vice-Chancellor brings decades of academic and administrative experience to the role. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His credentials also include regional and international recognition. In 2015, he received the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa Award from the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius. He has served on programme accreditation panels of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and chaired review panels for Namibia’s National Council for Higher Education.
Professor Obamuyi has also presented scholarly papers at conferences in Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and the United States, underscoring his international academic exposure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor’s wealth of experience would consolidate AAUA’s achievements and position the institution for greater progress in teaching, research and community service.
He urged Obamuyi to uphold the university’s core values while fostering peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting AAUA with the resources required to sustain its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
