The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the exhumation of the corpse of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

His untimely demise on Tuesday, September 12, sent shockwaves through the music industry and his legion of fans. The circumstances surrounding his death have remained shrouded in mystery, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of the young and talented artist.

Confirming the Developments

The Lagos State Police Command swiftly responded to the tragedy, initiating an investigation into the circumstances of Mohbad’s death. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the exhumation of Mohbad’s corpse, signaling the beginning of an autopsy to shed light on the mysterious events leading to his demise.

In an exclusive telephone interview, SP Hundeyin stated, “Mohbad’s corpse has been exhumed today, and an autopsy will begin as soon as possible.” However, when asked about arrests made in connection with the case, he added, “I can’t answer questions on the arrests yet, because I don’t have that update. However, the nurse is in our custody; I can confirm that.”

The Police’s Response

The swift response of the Nigerian Police Force was evident when the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, issued a directive to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohynwa, to initiate a comprehensive investigation into Mohbad’s tragic passing.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed this directive, emphasizing the need to uncover the truth surrounding the circumstances of his untimely death.

In response to the growing concerns and speculations surrounding Mohbad’s death, Commissioner Idowu Owohynwa constituted a Special Investigation Team within the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

This team, comprised of seasoned homicide detectives, was tasked with aggregating all allegations, suspicions, and insinuations from various sources.

SP Hundeyin elaborated, saying, “The team… has been tasked to aggregate all allegations, suspicions, and insinuations from various sources on the death of the singer and undertake a professional, diligent, and timely investigation with a view to establishing facts, clearing all doubts, and ensuring that justice is manifestly served.”

Government Support for the Investigation

The Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, pledged its full support to the Special Investigation Team in their quest for justice. The governor assured that all necessary resources would be provided to ensure a meticulous investigative process.

In addition, the Department of Security Services (DSS) was invited to collaborate in the investigation, leveraging inter-agency cooperation and advanced technology to uncover the truth.

The state government also made a heartfelt plea to anyone with vital information to come forward and cooperate with the investigating team, emphasizing the importance of confidentiality and witness protection.

Tributes and Demands for Justice

In the wake of Mohbad’s tragic death, tributes poured in from fans, friends, and fellow artists. The management of Mohbad announced a candlelight procession and tribute night in honor of the late artist, highlighting the outpouring of love from fans worldwide.

Renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, revealed that Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi, had sought his assistance in pursuing justice for her late husband.

Falana visited the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, and pledged his commitment to ensuring that the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death were fully investigated.
