Folakemi Falana, daughter of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), has taken a significant step in the quest for justice for the young  Nigerian music star, Mohbad, who died last week.

In her plea, Falana said Mohbad exhibited no signs of illness before his passing and had even performed at a show in Ikorodu just hours before his tragic demise.

The document, dated Monday, September 18, 2023, was posted on Falana’s Instagram story and was dispatched from her father’s law chambers. In the appeal, Falana cited the Lagos State Coroners Law and emphasized the need for a coroner’s inquest to establish the cause of Mohbad’s death promptly.

“We are compelled to request you to use your good offices to cause a coroner’s inquest to be conducted into the cause of death of this young promising musician and make appropriate recommendations pursuant to section 15 of the Lagos State Coroners Law 2007,” Falana wrote.

“We hereby request your lordship to conduct an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death in Lagos, and we are confident that your lordship will accede to our request with utmost urgency.”

The mysterious circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing have fueled speculation and raised suspicions. Videos circulating on social media alleged maltreatment by his former record label, and his official request to the police for protection from individuals, including Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, added to the intrigue.

The public outcry for justice led to the trending hashtag #justiceforMohbad, prompting official police investigations that were initiated on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Mohbad’s untimely death has left a void in the music industry, and the call for answers and accountability is growing louder.
