Nigeria are nine- time African champions and were ranked the 10th best national team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Central Africa nation football association has thus notified the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF about their inability to honour the two encounters slated to hold on 22 and 26 of this month.

Their withdrawal means that the Super Falcons will face the winner of the fixture between Cape Verde and Liberia, at the second-round stage slated for the period 27th November – 5th December.

The winner will compete at WAFCON 2024 which will be hosted by Morocco.

The Super Falcons finished in fourth position at the last edition of the competition also hosted by Morocco last year.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF had on September 15 released the list of 24 players to face the Sao Tome ladies.

Some of the Super Falcons players had arrived the country ahead of the game on Friday before the decision of the Sao Tome and Principe Football Association to withdraw from the fixtures.
