Update: Morocco Football Federation Offers Gate-takings To Victims Of Earthquake

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation on Tuesday morning announced that it will donate all the proceeds from the friendly match between Morocco and Burkina Faso to be played tonight (Tuesday, 12 September 2023) to the Special Fund dedicated to receiving voluntary solidarity contributions for managing the consequences of the earthquake.

Morocco was devasted by the earthquake that killed scores of people in the city of Marrakesh.

The majority of the gate-takings are expected from the Moroccan community living abroad.

The Atlas Lions have qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivorie and are now preparing for the tournament with a series of friendly games.

However, the second friendly match that was expected to take place on Monday, between Morocco and Brazil’s U23 squads as part of their preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics, was cancelled.

It fell within the three-day national mourning declared by the Royal Office of King Mohammed VI.

The national football family has sent its sympathy and profound condolences to the relatives of the deceased and wishes those injured a speedy recovery in these difficult times.
