Since its inception in 2006, The Headies has played a pivotal role in celebrating and recognizing achievements in the Nigerian music industry. Over the years, it has evolved into the most prestigious accolade in Nigerian music, a testament to the growing influence and creativity of the country’s artists.

On September 3, 2023, the 16th edition of The Headies Awards continued its tradition of honouring exceptional talent, and notably, the event took place in Atlanta, Georgia for the second consecutive year. Here are 5 Major Wins at this year’s Headies Awards:

Rema’s Dominance:

Rema, the sensational artist known for his hit single “Calm Down,” emerged as one of the night’s big winners, securing three major awards. He claimed the titles of Best Male Artist, African Artist of the Year, and Digital Artist of the Year.

Additionally, Aremu Olaiwola Qudus, also known as Director K, received recognition as the Best Video Director for his work on the “Calm Down” music video.

Asake’s Triumph:

Asake, another rising star in the Nigerian music scene, walked away with several honors. His talent earned him the Next Rated Artist award, while his album “Mr. Money With The Vibez” clinched the coveted Album of the Year award.

Burna Boy’s Double Win:

The Afrofusion powerhouse Burna Boy’s chart-topping single “Last Last” secured two significant awards – Afrobeats Single of the Year and Song of the Year. Burna Boy’s continued success reinforces his status as a dominant force in the industry.

 OdumoduBLVCK’s Rap Excellence:

OdumoduBLVCK made his mark by winning the Rap Single of the Year award with “Declan Rice,” showcasing his lyrical prowess and creative ingenuity.

SeyiVibes’ Stellar Performance:

SeyiVibes also found himself on the list of honorees, a testament to his remarkable contribution to the Nigerian music landscape.

The Headies Awards, born in 2006, have undeniably grown into the most coveted prize in Nigerian music. The 16th edition, held in Atlanta for the second time, was hosted by Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro and American actor-turned-media personality Terrence J.

This year’s event once again showcased the immense talent and innovation within the Nigerian music industry, solidifying its global reputation as a powerhouse of musical creativity.
