Fidelity Bank Partners BASEMA To Provide Food Aid For Benue IDPs

Fidelity Bank Plc, a financial institution, has taken substantial measures to combat hunger among vulnerable populations. The organisation recently executed a significant initiative by distributing over 1,200 food packs to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Makurdi, Benue State.

The event which held on 10 August 2023, within the IDP Camp located at the Federal Housing Estate in North Bank, Benue State, was made possible through a partnership involving Fidelity Plc, the Hyacinth Alia Foundation, and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA).

Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank Plc, underscored the Fidelity Food Bank as a core component of the institution’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. This program stands as a testament to the bank’s commitment to aiding those in need and mitigating the prevalence of hunger.

Nwagboh said: “Our aspiration is to establish connections with underserved communities through our strategic partner organizations, which possess profound insights into the needs of these communities. In Benue State, our collaboration extends to the State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). To date, we have distributed more than 24,000 Fidelity food packs nationwide, addressing the pressing global issue of hunger.”

Fidelis Unongo, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Innovation Strategies, Special Duties, Development, Policy, and Planning, lauded Fidelity Bank’s philanthropic endeavor and expressed gratitude for their generous contribution. He also offered reassurance to the IDPs, emphasizing the government’s commitment to facilitating their safe return to their places of origin.

Abraham Tar, Chairman of the IDP Camp, extended heartfelt appreciation to Fidelity Bank for its benevolent gesture. Tar pledged diligent oversight of the equitable distribution of the donated supplies and highlighted the importance of donors also considering the health and well-being of the IDPs, particularly women and children.

Some of the recipients of the aid, individuals like Msurshima Kunde, Comfort Lorfa, and Terundu Shima conveyed their deep gratitude for Fidelity Bank‘s compassionate outreach. They further advocated for enhanced healthcare services within the camp, striving to improve access to quality medical attention.
