I Shiver As Lecturers Brag Of Rigging Elections- ABU VC

The Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof Kabiru Bala, has condemned the conduct of some academics when engaged in electoral assignments.
Despite such dishonourable conduct of a few who brag about assisting politicians to rig elections, he called for more university lecturers to be engaged in electoral duties to strengthen sustainable elections in Nigeria. U.S Imposes Visa Ban On Nigerian Politicians Who Undermined 2023 Elections
Prof Bala spoke in Kaduna at the third International Conference organised by the Department of Political Science and International Studies, ABU, in collaboration with Mambayya House, Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University Kano.
He said, “Academics are a set of people that you can have confidence and trust in. If we want good elections, we have to ensure that the process is well-sanitised.
“Therefore, if we think that academics were one group of people that can sanitise the election processes, they should be given the chance to do so.
“I know there are mixed reactions from the academics on the involvement of our members during general elections in Nigeria.
“It makes me shiver when I hear some of our colleagues say, ‘We are the people who rig elections.’ I participated in the process and I know what I did.” You’ve Admitted 2023 Election Was Flawed, Atiku Replies Tinubu Campaign
PBA reports that the presidential election which was held on February 25, 2023, is being contested in court following the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Both Labour Party’s presidential flagbearer, Mr Peter Obi and former Vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, have dragged the APC and President Bola Tinubu to the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), each claiming that he won the election and not the APC.
