Anambra ex-Governor, Mbadinuju, Dies At 78

The former governor of Anambra State Chinwoke Mbadinuju has passed on.

He died at the age of 78.

This was revealed in a statement released by his first son, Chetachi Mbadinuju, who said he passed on peacefully” on Tuesday morning at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness.

“With heavy hearts but utmost gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle, friend and associate, Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former governor of Anambra State and elder statesman,”  Chetachi, who is a lawyer said in a statement.

The son prayed for God’s mercy upon his father and those he left behind to mourn him.

He said the family would announce his funeral arrangements in due course.

The late Mbadinuju served as the governor of Anambra State between 29 May 1999 and 29 May 2003 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He sought re-election through the PDP platform but was couldn’t get the party’s ticket which Chris Ngige later won and subsequently became the governor for another three years before Peter Obi’s emergence under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) through a court ruling that he validly won the 2003 governorship election in the state.
