Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued security alert warning its nationals to avoid non-essential travels to Abuja, Nigeria.
The travel advisory released on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in Accra, said there are fears of high danger of terrorism, criminality, inter-communal conflict, armed attacks, and kidnappings.

The statement titled “Security Update In Abuja, Nigeria” read, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to inform the travelling public about security developments in Abuja, Nigeria, and the subsequent directive by local authorities to hotels operating in residential buildings to shut down.
“Accordingly, the public is advised to avoid non-essential travel to Abuja, due to the unpredictable security situation in the city, and the high danger of terrorism, criminality, inter-communal conflict, armed attacks, and kidnappings.
“Whilst advising travellers who must travel out of necessity to Abuja to take precautionary measures, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the public when the situation improves.”
By this, the West African country joins the list of other countries that have warned it’s nationals to either move out of Abuja or avoid going there in the meantime.
Foreign missions have raised security alert of an impending terrorist attacks in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
It started with the United States and United Kingdom which issued separate advisories warning about high risk of terror attacks.
The US Department of State consequently, approved the departure of its citizens willing to leave Nigeria due to the alert, while the US embassy also suspended consular services in Abuja.
The embassies of Denmark, Ireland, Bulgaria, Finland and Germany in Abuja have raised similar alerts.
Following the alert, the Department of State Service (SSS) advised Nigerians to remain calm but cautious.
