September 30, 2022

Nigeria Football Federation President-elect Ibrahim Gusau on Friday evening resoundly defeated former Nigeria international Idah Peterside in a rerun of the election that sees him replace Amaju Pinnick as substantive President of the Federation reports Prime Business Africa.

In the earlier election held Friday as reported by Prime Business Africa, Gusau claimed 21 votes ahead of Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who polled 12 votes.

League Management Committe (LMC) boss Mallam Shehu Dikko got 6 votes.

The duo of Alhaji Abba Abdulahi Yola and former international Peterside had 1 vote each but UK-based fpptbs consultant and former player, David Doherty and Dr Chris Emeruwa had no vote.

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau could not meet up with the 21% of vote casted (43) and as such was expected to have a rerun against Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who polled 12 votes.

The drama took a different turn afterwards as Seyi Akinwunmi, Abba Yola and Shehu Dikko stepped down from the next stage of voting.

However Peterside who is also a Clergyman and Television pundit refused to back down and a rerun was the only option available.

In the second round of votes, Gusau polled 39 votes while Peterside retained just 1 vote while 1 vote was returned unaccounted.

There had been an Appeal Court injunction mandating the election and Annual General Assembly of the Federation to go ahead after the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria insisted on stopping the election through a High Court ruling.

The footballers representatives complained about the marginalisation and inadequate representation in the Glass House.
