BUFFETED by terrorism, banditry, and general insecurity that have kept pupils out of school in the northern part of the country, Education remains a priority for the Nigerian government.

President Muhammadu Buhari gave this assurance on Thursday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State when he said that improving quality of education would remain his government’s priority.

The President had received the proprietress, principal and students of Premier Pacesetters School, a Daura-based private school, at his house. Buhari gave assurances that more emphasis would be given to improving education.

“We will allocate an increasing share of resources to improve learning in the country in our effort to reform the educational sector,” he said.

The President interacted with some of the children and emphasized the essence of character in learning. Buhari reportedly urged the pupils not to lose sight of Nigeria’s aspirations.

A statement issued by the President’s spokesmen, Garba Shehu, quoted the school’s proprietress, Mrs. Celine Friday, as having conveyed Sallah greetings of staff and students of the Premier Pacesetters to the President and commended the special attention given to education by his administration.

She used the opportunity to appeal for federal government’s assistance to private schools in rural communities.
