Arsenal legend Thierry Henry claimed the accolade for the greatest ever Premier League player since the start of the English professional league in 1992 courtesy of a football fan survey conducted by Betfair.
The survey asked more than 1,000 football fans to express their views on who they thought has been the best-ever player ahead of the big kick-off this weekend – which will represent the Premier League’s 30th anniversary.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelHenry who scored 275 league goals for Arsenal earned 15 per cent of the vote ahead of five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo and Newcastle icon, Alan Shearer.
Henry who has been in Nigeria for promotional purposes a few times is affectionately called ‘Igwe’ by his adoring Nigerian fans.
The fourth place was picked by Manchester United’s eccentric star Eric Cantona while current Aston Villa – and Liverpool legend – Steven Gerrard was fifth in the survey.
Shearer remains the the Premier League’s highest goal scorer with 360 goals.
