Izuchukwu OkosiMikel Arteta’s Arsenal defeated a defiant Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Selhurst Park Friday night in the flrst English Premier League game of the season.
Gabriel Martinelli headed the Gunners into a narrow half-time lead, before Anglo-Nigerian England international Bukayo Saka forced an own goal from Marc Guehi late in the game to seal all three points.
Martinelli became the 11th different Brazilian to score for the Gunners on Friday.
The Gunners showed determination and grit to see out the game, but for long periods, their quality showed as they swept aside a Palace side who couldn’t finish their chances.
Arsenal had Aaron Ramsdale to thank for keeping them in front who made a couple of excellent saves to deny Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze.
Up next for Arsenal is a clash against Leicester City on Saturday, August 13, which is followed by a trip to newly-promoted Bournemouth a week later.

He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations.
Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line.
Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
