Former deputy governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has reacted to the killing of Anambra State House of Assembly member, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye by the infamous ‘unknown gunmen’.

In statement through his official Twitter handle on Monday evening, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant in 2023 election, described as shocking the manner in which the lawmaker was killed after six days in the kidnappers’ den, noting that such act constitutes terrorism.

“The gruesome murder of Okechukwu Okoye, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and the abduction of his aide Chiegboka are utterly wicked and condemnable crimes. The activities of so-called ‘Unknown Gunmen’ in Southeast Nigeria constitute terrorism. South East is bleeding,” lamented.

Slain Anambra lawmaker, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye

Hon. Okoye who represented Aguata II Constituency at the State House of Assembly, was abducted alongside his aide, Cyril Chiegboka on 15th May, by the criminal gang.

Reportedly, Okoye’s mangled head was shockingly found at Chisco park in Amichi, a community in Nnewi South Local Government Area, while his headless body was recovered along Nnobi, Ideani road in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, as confirmed in a statement by the state police public relations officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.

The slain lawmaker hails from Isuofia where the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo comes from.

Moghalu urged the Nigerian government to do everything possible to end the rising level of insecurity across the country, noting that it is the utmost responsibility of the government to ensure security of lives and properties of its citizens.

“We must end this reign of terror. It remains the responsibility of @NigeriaGov which is responsible for security, to do so. Life has become so cheap in our country that a more fundamental, political leadership change must happen as soon as possible to restore our human dignity,” Prof. Moghalu stated.
