The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has just confirmed the arrest of former Governor of Anambra State, Sir Willie Obiano.

In a telephone call with Prime Business Africa at exactly 10.49 pm on Thursday, a senior official of the anti-crime agency said the governor was still in custody. The official however declined answering questions on specific details of the former governor’s arrest shortly after he handed over power to Professor Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday.

Obiano was reportedly arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on his way to Houston Texas.

Recall that the official transfer of power between Obiano and Soludo earlier on Thursday came with drama as the ex-governor’s wife, Ebele Obiano reportedly harassed Bianca Ojukwu, former beauty queen and widow of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the Biafran leader, which resulted in exchange of slaps.

Ex-governor Obiano was reported to have left the venue of the swearing-in ceremony in Awka shortly after the wife’s brawl with Bianca Ojukwu and the crowd was yet to disperse.
