APC Suspends Inauguration Of Buni's Convention Committees As Bello Takes Over

Prime Business Africa reports authoritatively that the All Progressives Congress (APC)  will no longer inaugurate  the 20  committees, which the  ousted caretaker chairman Mai Mala Buni  set up for the March 26, 2022  National convention.   The event was earlier slated for today (Monday, March 7, 2022)

Asked if the cancellation was as a result of Buni’s removal by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, some senior members of the party in Abuja  told our correspondent that the committee as composed had been subject of controversy  because the Presidency and APC governors  had no confidence in it.

The new ‘administrator’ of the APC and governor of Niger State Abubakar Sani Bello  is expected to provide direction as the party will soon set up new committees to move things forward.

”The list of  sub committees for the convention will be suspended and a revised one published to accommodate the input of the President and the governors,”  a senior APC  member close to the new administrator, said Sunday night.

”We believe that Buni’s committees were deliberately populated by members  and two or three governors, opposed to holding National Convention and possibly  plotting  Buni’s transmutation to a substantive chairman of the APC,”  one of the active leaders of the party told Prime Business Africa on Sunday night.

This newspaper confirmed that, as at 4 pm 0n Sunday, more than  a hundred of  Buni’s proposed members of  different sub committees had arrived Abuja  from different parts of the country in readiness for the Monday morning inauguration. ”Others are expected to fly in on  tomorrow (Monday) morning,” a senior member of the party from one of the northern  states told Prime Business Africa.

This does not look like the best of times for the ruling All Progressives Congress  (APC). the sequence of events within the party in the last three months has  a lot of back and forth  as personal and group interest  continue to slow down its march to a successful national convention..

  1. PrimeBusiness was the first to break the news. In fact, other new media such as the Guardian, attributed the news to PrimeBusiness. Kudos to the team!!
