Russia on Saturday, 5th of March 2022, declared a ceasefire in Ukraine in order to open humanitarian corridors for civilians.

This comes after the reported catastrophic humanitarian situation in most of Ukraine, with the cities of Kiev, Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov, and Mariupol being the hardest hit by the humanitarian crisis.
According to Ukrainian presidential aide Mikhail Podolyak, about 200,000 people are trying to evacuate from Mariupol, while “20,000 people also want to leave the city of Volnovakha in the Donetsk region”.
At the moment, Volnovakha and Mariupol, one of Ukraine’s largest ports, are being blockaded by forces from the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Sputnik, Russian state-owned news agency reported.
Mariupol’s authorities said that they want to use the ceasefire in order to restore critical infrastructure in the city, as well as provide it with essential food items and medicines.
However another report monitored on Saturday states that Ukraine has accused Russia of not observing an agreed ceasefire in certain areas, thwarting a joint plant to allow civilians to evacuate from front line cities such as Mariupol, Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said in a televised broadcast.
