Nigeria is seeking Chinese investment in oil and gas equipment manufacturing to expand domestic production, transfer technology and integrate local companies into global supply chains, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) said, Prime Business Africa reports.

The board held talks with more than 100 Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) during the 15th China Shale Oil and Gas Summit in Chengdu, pitching Nigeria as a base for manufacturing, assembly and oilfield services.

The engagement forms part of efforts to shift ties with Chinese manufacturers beyond equipment purchases towards investment and local production.
Austin Uzoka, NCDMB director of Project Certification and Authorization Division, said the board wanted Chinese companies to establish operations in Nigeria and partner with local businesses. He was representing NCDMB Executive Secretary Felix Omatsola Ogbe at the summit.
“We are looking beyond the traditional buyer-seller relationship. What can we build together?” Uzoka said in a keynote address on Nigeria’s local content framework and opportunities for Chinese collaboration in oil and gas equipment manufacturing.
The board highlighted the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme (NOGaPS) as a platform for Chinese manufacturers to establish production, assembly and service facilities in Nigeria. It said investments could support technology transfer and give Nigerian companies greater access to international supply chains, while serving demand from the domestic oil and gas industry and markets across the Gulf of Guinea.

A business-to-business session organised by the NCDMB brought Chinese manufacturers together with Nigerian industry stakeholders, including the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria, Project 100 and Renaissance African Energy Company. Discussions focused on local manufacturing, investment, technology development, supply-chain integration and market access.
The NCDMB said several Chinese manufacturers expressed interest in pursuing partnerships with Nigerian companies following the meetings, with discussions expected to focus on establishing local production and service operations.
The board said the next step would be to translate the contacts made in Chengdu into investment and technology-transfer deals that can expand Nigeria’s oil and gas manufacturing base.
