Nigeria’s petroleum regulator has ordered fuel stations nationwide to immediately calibrate and verify their dispensing equipment after detecting cases of under-dispensing of petroleum products to consumers, Prime Business Africa reports.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said it had intensified inspections of retail outlets and would sanction operators found dispensing inaccurate quantities, with persistent or serious violations potentially leading to the revocation of their licences.

The authority directed operators to verify their dispensers and totalisers to ensure customers receive the quantities of products for which they pay.

NMDPRA said outlets found to be under-dispensing or using improperly calibrated equipment would be required to take immediate corrective action.
The regulator also urged the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and Petroleum Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) to notify their members and support compliance.
The enforcement drive is aimed at protecting consumers, promoting transparency and ensuring accuracy in petroleum product transactions, NMDPRA said.
