The state government said the factory, which produces cassava flour and other derivatives, is expected to benefit more than 25,000 farmers, generate employment and further strengthen Oyo State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading cassava-producing states.

The council also approved an additional equity investment of ₦2.462 billion for the commissioning and commencement of commercial operations at Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited in Iseyin. The latest investment follows an earlier equity contribution of ₦850 million by the state government towards the revitalisation and completion of the sugar processing factory.

In the transport sector, ExCo approved the construction of the four-kilometre Idi-Igba/Akinmorin Road in Ilora at a cost of ₦2.901 billion. The council said the project is expected to stimulate socio-economic activities, improve connectivity and enhance access for residents, farmers and businesses in the area.

The Executive Council further approved an additional ₦26.768 billion for the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport. The approval covers additional works arising from the revised Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), including the construction of a 140-metre runway strip, a runway safety area, a blast pad, additional pipe covers and other ancillary infrastructure required to complete the airport upgrade.

To strengthen healthcare delivery, the council approved the implementation of a Healthcare Initiative Project to be financed through a €55 million French loan backed by the Federal Government.

The project will fund the modular construction and equipping of hospitals, including a Cardiac Centre, Emergency and Maternity Centres, Operating Theatres and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).

The healthcare initiative also includes the procurement of 39 ambulances, the establishment of 10 dental centres, the upgrade of 200 Primary Healthcare Centres, and the provision of emergency and maternity facilities at hospitals in Igboora, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Moniya, Kishi, Iseyin, Okeho and Eruwa.

In the sports sector, the council approved an initial take-off grant of ₦200 million for Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to support the Ibadan-based club’s quest for continental success, ending a 27-year wait for honours on the African stage.

The approvals reflect the Oyo State Government’s continued investment in critical infrastructure, agro-industrial development, healthcare delivery and sports, with the broader objective of stimulating economic growth, creating jobs and improving the quality of life for residents across the state.
