APC Strengthens Senate Majority as Akpabio Swears In Four By-Election Winners

June 24, 2026

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has further consolidated its majority in the Senate following the swearing-in of four senators elected in last Saturday’s by-elections, three of whom are members of the party, Prime Business Africa reports.

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, administered the oath of office to Dayo Faduyile, representing Ondo South Senatorial District; Envulu Anza, representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District; and Ikeje Asogwu, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, all of the APC. Also sworn in was Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South East Senatorial District.

The lawmakers were inaugurated during Wednesday’s plenary, formally joining the 10th Senate and restoring representation to their respective districts.

The outcome of the by-elections strengthens the APC’s numerical advantage in the upper chamber at a time when the National Assembly is considering key legislative proposals, including constitutional amendments, electoral reforms and security-related bills.

By securing three of the four contested seats, the APC has reinforced its influence in the Senate, potentially boosting support for the party’s legislative agenda and executive-backed policies.

Beyond the political implications, the inauguration restores full representation to constituents in Ondo South, Nasarawa North, Enugu North and Rivers South East, ensuring their participation in legislative debates, committee work and oversight activities.

The newly sworn-in senators are expected to immediately assume their legislative responsibilities as members of the upper chamber.
