NGX Market Cap Plunges To N154trn, Stock Traders Seal Fewer Deals

NGX Sheds N1.16trn After Sell-Off In Thomas Wyatt, Ava Capital

The all-share index (ASI) of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) contracted to 240,802.72 ASI on Wednesday, from 241,984.8 index on Tuesday.

Following the 1,182.08 basis points decline in the ASI, the market capitalisation of the Nigerian stock market decreased by N758.15 billion.

The market capitalisation closed at N154.44 trillion, below the previous day’s N155.2 trillion.

NGX revealed that the traders in the stock market sealed 51,143 deals after exchanging 662.96 million shares worth N39.97 billion, against the 535.53 million shares traded in 55,123 deals, valued at N36.84 billion, on Tuesday.

Top Five Gainers

  • Neimeth’s share price increased by N0.80 kobo, from N8.45 kobo to N9.25 kobo per share.
  • Cornerstone’s share value grew by N0.50 kobo, from N5.40 kobo to N5.90 kobo per share.
  • VFD Group’s share appreciated by N0.80 kobo, to end trading at N10.85 kobo, having opened with N10.05.
  • MCNichols’ share ended trading at N7.50 kobo per share, from N7 per share – indicating an increase of N0.50 kobo.
  • Sunu Assurance’s share value was up by N0.14 kobo, after closing at N3.72 kobo, from N3.58 kobo per share.

Top Five Losers

  • Geregu’s share price depreciated by N113.20 kobo, dwindling from N1,132.50 kobo to N1,019.30 kobo per share.
  • Okomu Oil recorded a N157 decline in its share price to end trading at N1,418, after opening with N1,575.
  • Redstar Express recorded a N3.05 decline in its share price to end trading at N27.60 kobo, after opening with N30.65 kobo per share.
  • Consolidated Hallmark Insurance lost N0.86 kobo in its share price, to sell at N7.82 kobo, down from N8.68 kobo per share.
  • International Energy Insurance reported a decline of N0.57 kobo, from the previous share price of N5.76 kobo, to end trading at N5.19 kobo per share.

Top Five Trading Equities

  • Access Holdings reported that 130.26 million shares valued at N3.07 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Jaiz Bank recorded 114.92 million shares valued at N1.04 billion.
  • Sterling Financial Holdings Company saw investors trade 31.10 million of its shares valued at N237.23 million.
  • International Breweries recorded 22.05 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N247.61 million.
  • Linkage Assurance reported that traders exchanged 17.01 million shares valued at N27.68 million.
