The Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail granted to activist, publisher and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, in an ongoing criminal case, according to the defendant.
Sowore disclosed the development on Tuesday in a statement, alleging that the decision came despite his presence at the court on the scheduled hearing date.
The activist said the matter, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025 between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Omoyele Sowore, had been slated for ruling on an application seeking the trial judge’s recusal from the proceedings.

According to Sowore, he arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja at about 8:20 a.m. on June 15 and remained there until nearly noon, when court officials informed him that the court would not sit.
“It has been brought to my notice that the judge presiding over my case concerning ‘Tinubu is a criminal’ has revoked my bail, despite my presence in court yesterday, when the judge was not in attendance; consequently, we requested a new date,” he said.
Sowore further alleged that rather than consider the recusal application, the court proceeded to revoke his bail.
“The agenda for today was to consider my application seeking the judge’s recusal, but instead, he opted to revoke my bail in a bid to assert forceful control over the trial,” he stated.
A letter dated June 15, 2026, and signed by Sowore, corroborates that he formally notified the court registry of his attendance on the adjourned date.

In the correspondence addressed to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Sowore stated that the matter had been adjourned to June 15 for ruling on his motion for recusal. He said he was subsequently informed by the registry at about 11:57 a.m. that the court would not be sitting and that no prior notice had been given.
The letter requested that the matter be relisted for ruling on any of several proposed dates in July or September, or on any other date the court considered convenient.
The revocation of Sowore’s bail marks a significant development in the case, as it could pave the way for his detention pending further proceedings and deepen scrutiny of the legal battle involving the activist and federal authorities.
